Does anyone have any insight into how to break into the LINC maze? (Teaching English to immigrant/refugee clients). How does one break in to gain the required "experience with LINC" before working for LINC?

What about the Toronto District School Board for ESL/EFL teaching, when, how to access. I've gone to their web sites, but have not seen any job links for the TDSB...

Help, hints.....anything? Thanks!

1. Go to a university or college and take a one year TESL certificate- one of the ones listed on the TESL Ontario website.

2. Do your best to get at least part of your placement in a LINC programme.

3. Do your best to be female, and preferably over 40ish.

Hi. Ditto; got all 3 requirements already....just havn't paid the 80$+ to TESL Ontario to be a "memeber" though my diploma is recognized and certified by them. I did both of my practicums in a LINC school as well. Hmmm. there must be a hidden door somewhere....I think I can,I think I can....

Maybe there's a secret handshake?

I have heard that if you volunteer at a LINC school (and in my home town they always needed volunteers) you can then get in the back door for when they do their hiring and stuff. I never tried myself because of th bureacratic BS involved in teaching ESL in Ontario, but it might be worth a try if your heart is set on LINC and you don't mind not getting paid...

Thanks for the replies! Well, I spoke with someone today and she recommended going into individual LINC outlets, but not those of the TDSB, and just submit a resume for substitute teaching....maybe i can get enough substitue teaching hours, oh yipee!!! ( )
