Your school will instruct you on the visa stuff, so there's no need to ask here.
If you're going to work freelance you'll have to get a visa on your own of course, but IMHO if you're asking this kind of question you're not ready for it. |

Agreed. The first time it's probably better if an organization 'brings' you in. That way you gradually figure out how things work while staying out of trouble, with officialdom or otherwise.
But if you are going solo you'll need to visit a Russian embassy website (in any English-speaking country) for info. Once you know what you are doing you can apply at any Russian embassy/consulate. |

Not sure where you are writting from, but a Russian visa is a simple thing once you know how. Until then it seems impossible. You need an invitation for the type of visa sought. If you are taking classes at a school in Russia then ask them about visa support. There are many agencies that "sell" invitations or offer full visa services. Visa's range from a 30 day tourist visa, single or double entry, to a 1 year multi entry business visa. All visas must be registered within 3 days of arrival. if you are applying for a visa of greater than 3 months duration you must also submit the results of an AIDS test. My understanding is that even with a business visa you are registered for a maximum stay of 6 months, and must leave the country and return before the end of 6 months. This can be as simple as a few days to Estonia or Ukraine, neither of whom requires a visa for short visits by US or EU citizens. Does that answer your questions? PM me if you need sources for invitations in the USA. |

An American does not need a visa to enter Ukraine. An American can stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days without a visa. At that time he must "cross the border" and then re-enter the country.
The consulate in New York is not very eager to give visas. He was quite abrupt when i wanted one.
