Howdy, people
I have a question for those of you currently teaching in public schools over there, primary or secondary. Are your schools equipped with computer labs with internet access for your students to use? Is it possible to do whole-class activities online? Do you ever do such things?

I have been or worked in many HK schools and every one of them had a computer lab. Even a small village school. I don't often use them though. |

Yes, it's the norm here for schools to have computer labs - one computer for each student and kids go in there for lessons with the IT teacher. They are taught en masse by means of a huge screen at the front of the room and the task is modelled for the kids to see and do the same.
As a result, even very young kids have excellent IT skills - they make power points, use excel and design webpages at early primary level (very embarrassing actually as their IT skills are WAY better than those of many of their teachers - yours truly included!)
My last school had a computer lab but set up a second one with state of the art computers, printers, projector and scanner/s.
It's also common for every classroom to have a computer and a large pull-down screen so the teacher can use internet games, songs etc. as well as show DVDs.
Every school I've been at has had this equipment + a projector so that books, worksheets etc. can be projected onto the screen.
It certainly is an IT kind of place. |
