Hey Guys,

Million very specific questions about rent in Quito. I'll lay them out right off the bat.

1. Can one rent for short term (i.e. three-month) and still get fair deals?

2. What do furnished vs non-furnished prices look like?

3. Does one need a garantia (as in Argentina) to rent for fair price?

4. New Town vs Old Town: Old Town strikes me as more beautiful and cheaper. New Town more modern and hooked into the city's contemporary heart. So... what's the real deal? Is the Old Town like Old Delhi (smelly, loud, dangerous) or like the historic center of Salvador (exciting, musical, beautiful). Where should I rent?

5. Any recommended internet sites to begin my search, get a feel?

6. Wanna share an apartment for March - May? I'm a 23 year old guy, am rather low-maintainence, taking a volunteer position with childcare in the city outskirts. PM me if you want to talk anything out.

Thanks for the help,
AdiBoo

Hi adiboo,
1. Yep no probs. Try casa vida verde (www.vidaverde.com) I used to manage the place, its in the north and close to english schools
2. Start from about $120 a month, a place called casa oriente, between new and old town, to about $180 a month.
3. If you rent an apartment you need deposits, about a month and maybe have to sign a contract.
4. New town is more expensive, and has alot more nightlife. Old town more beautiful and authentic. Old town under rejuvenation program and alot safer and cleaner. If you are teaching English, New town closer to the schools.
5. Mercadolibre.com, ecuadorenventa.com for apartments. Otherwise check notices in the internet cafes.
6. No, but I have a new hostel in the center if you are interested in a volunteer position www.hostelrevolutionquito.com with free accom. I have seen a few apartments for rent too around here, usually cheaper than newtown.
Good luck,
Matt
