Im packing this week - any last minute ideas for resources and things I can pack?
I have a laminator, and would hate to land and then think of all the things I coulda laminated and didnt....
I am packing photos, maps, some job adverts for use in business english classes, some laminated A4s of famous people for a 'my heroes' or 'fantasy guests at a dinner party', and some special offers leaflets from my local supermarket for a 'lets go shopping' lesson.
Any ideas of other simple things I can pack, laminate etc.... obviously nothing too big or heavy due to travel restrictions! |

If I could laminate I'd laminate a few of the weather pages from the back of USA Today. Not because I think the newspaper's so great, but they've got pretty weather maps with lots of info.
A weather map is almost a whole English language textbook, in a pinch. Temperatures, adjectives, verbs of change, past, present, and future for travel/plans, experiences in different places, numbers practice.....
I often used just this one resource for initial lessons with businesspeople. |

Thanks Spiral - I will treat myself to an up-market newspaper tomorrow, and see if there is anything there I can use! |

Laminated documents!!?? You just effectively doubled or tripled the weight of such stuff. Unless it is a valuable document (like a TEFL certificate), why bother? Students will want to see the real thing, and it is easily enough replaced, or obtained from the Internet.
I'd worry more about personal belongings (vitamins, deodorant, large size clothing, etc.) , but then again, you didn't say where you were going... |

I agree. In years past I used to collect authentic texts and imagine when/how I could use them in future classes, and then I would get to the classes and struggle to find ways to fit them in appropriately. More often than not, they didn't get used in the end, and once I got the feel for the class and its personality and goals I would have to begin the search again for appropriate materials. Now I know to wait and see.

Me three. You probably won't need to bring any resources if you have a laptop. Chances are your school has a computer or two and the most valuable item yet to be mentioned - a colour printer. You can print off pictures pertaining to the class to be taught and can be all set.
Better than weighing down your luggage. |

LOL - adding the 80 micron laminated sheet wont put me over-weight, I mentioned weight restrictions simply as I cant pack anything heavy which might be suggested...
Im in Wenchang, a smallish town in Hainan Province (as mentioned in signature)- When I was there last year I found getting things printed from the laptop was a nightmare and couldnt be relied upon, hence wishing to print a few things now.
I dont need huge amounts of clothes / toiletries, as I will visit the UK in the summer holiday rather than travel - and although my case is pretty full - I do have room for a few things that might be useful in class |

OK, fully understand. Just don't make the same mistake I did.
Don't pack too much clothing.
It's cheap, and many stores have now lost the annoying bargaining aspect. You'll probably find better rags out here than you can get back home and it's cheaper.
I can't believe I was stupid enough to commit this grievous error 3 times. I'm worse than a bloody woman. |

LOL at Tom Selleck - you need all those clothes to keep that 80s reputation intact.
I leave today - all packed now - and yeah, I think I also have too many clothes |

And make sure you have a backup (or two) of the materials on the laptop, because if it's stolen you'll lose those resources. |
