Has anybody heard anything about the next wave of downsizing of the
the Americans and Europeans at Jubail Industrial College/Jubail Technical
Institute? I have heard vague rumors but nothing substantial.
I wonder if the Jubail University College will be affected this year.
I don't want to leave anything to chance this time.

JUC management are coming to UK in March to interview candidates for different job positions in English and other specialities.
I think they want new blood of English teachers! |

I have heard that certain members of the ELC department at JIC got Ds for their annual assessment. According to Royal Commission rules this would normally mean their contracts would not be renewed. Giving six months notice this way is the correct way to do it.
JUC is losing a couple of English staff voluntarily, but also needs a fair number of new teachers, particularly male teachers, as the Boys college is taking the bulk of the expansion planned for September. Heading to England for interviews seems sensible (Khalifa used to do that every year for JIC but in July, which was really to late to get the best candidates; much more intelligent to do it earlier). |

This is accurate.However,many of the people who were knifed last year,
including our illustrious correspondent Mr Jones,consistently got A/excellent in their annual assessments.The teaching and administrative
skills which he and many others displayed were not taken into account.

Mr Joyce, why was Mr Jones knifed and sacked?
Was it a personal clash with senior management? Or for some other hidden reasons?
We want to learn from history. But, sometimes history repeats itself regardless of our learning! |

Could your friend not ask questions for himself- preferably before he 'goes to work with JIC'? VS is advocating that one NOT gossip. Are we then to assume that you are 'a retired and old gentleman', since you appear to be gossiping? If we do not die first, we will all get old and retire, inshallah. Is this shameful, as you are suggesting? |

I am old gentleman, but not retired yet.
Getting old and gossiping is not at all shameful; in the contrary is an indication of a healthy mind and healthy legs!

If someone wishes to know why SJ was terminated, they should send him a PM and ask him. Then he can choose to ignore them or tell them... it appears that he is ignoring your question, as it deserves.
Why would you think that your friend would be at all affected by SJ's personal situation? ...unless your friend is a Westerner who has already been there for many years. It seems a tactless question, bordering on rudeness...

I think there is a clash of conception and miss-understanding.
No matter what the dictionary says, "politeness" and "rudeness" aren't easily translated, especially if you have two different cultures, American vs Arabic.
Because it seems to me that you are affected by the �cowboy civility� concept in your definition of �rudeness�.
Because what is �rudeness� for you is a �politeness� for me.
I think we need to develop a common dictionary (version 1.007) between you and me to understand each other. Don�t you think so? |
