discrimination by language schools, primary, secondary school employers when it comes to what kind of English you speak? I am British, actually from Scotland, and want to try looking for TEFL work in South America. I have a TESOL cert (Trinity) and 8 years teaching experience. I have heard that there's quite a strong bias by employers in South America to teachers with American accents. I just wanted to check if anyone has experience of this as it is quite a big concern for me in considering a move out to South America. Thanks in advance for any experience you might be able to offer. |

Sometimes, yes there is.
However at the uni where I worked before there were two Scots, one from Edinburgh and one from Glasgow. If you're a good teacher and speak clearly, it shouldn't matter too much. |
