| What a blessing- the advent of one way tickets! Leave when you want from where you want. However I have heard unofficially that Mexican border authorities may occassionally have not allowed travelers to enter without round trip tickets. The flimsy reason being that there will be less incentive to leave when your visa expires. Stupid or what? Is there anybody out there who has either a good or a bad experience entering Mexico with a one way ticket? |

I have never heard of Mexican authorities checking airline tickets. (That would be the job of the airline transporting you to Mexico prior to boarding you, if it were a requirement.) Once you arrive in Mexico the Immigration authorities look at (and maybe stamp) your passport, assign your time in the country ie: 30, 60, 90 days, and stamp your tourist card. If you enter by car there is no ticket involved to show you are ever leaving. Many Canadian and American teachers do enter on one way tickets. Others needing special visas or perhaps those from Central or South America may be treated differently.
FYI, a Canadian cannot enter the USA on a one way ticket either, so even if this were the case for Mexico it is not unusual or "stupid". Many countries require travellers to have ongoing or return tickets. |

| I've always entered Mexico and the US on one way tickets (I'm Canadian). It has never been a problem. Do a search as this has been covered before. |

Canadians most certainly can enter the United States on a one way ticket. Mexicans can also fly in to the U.S. on a one way ticket with no problem. Canadians and Americans should be able to enter Mexico on a one way ticket with no problem. If anyone is going to question you about flying in to Mexico on a one way ticket, it is going to be the ticket agent in the U.S. But generally speaking, it shouldn't be a problem. |

Within the last week or two, Morelia to Detroit via Chicago. 1 Canadian (me) and 1 Mexican (girlfriend).
Canadian authorities, on the other hand, are 10x worse than the worst U.S. customs/immigration officer. I wouldn't advise any Mexican tourist to attempt flying into Canada on a one way ticket.
I don't consider there to be any good reason to buy a round-trip ticket for Mexico/U.S. travel, unless it is a very short trip and it is important to have a fixed return date. The prices for one-way Mexico/U.S. or U.S./Mexico travel do not seem to have a premium added to them. They seem to be roughly 1/2 of the round-trip ticket price. One way tickets between Canada/Mexico are much more than 1/2 the round-trip price. |

| This requirement has nothing to do with Canadian officials. It is USA Immigration officers whose job it is to pre-clear flights at Canadian airports for travel into the USA who deny entry to non citizens attempting to travel on one way tickets. It's within their authority to do so, and I wouldn't take the chance. It happens alot. But then again, they can deny entry, on a gut feeling, for those with round-trip tickets too, so whatever. |

| I got a bit of a drilling by Buffalo border officials for having a one-way e-ticket out of Miami (driving from Toronto to Miami), and that was pre-9/11. Since then, I've never received more than a quick Q&A routine about where I'm going, how long to stay, etc without being asked to show on onward ticket. I wouldn't make any assumptions with US border and airport people though...not this day in age... |
