I took a train from HCM to Hanoi once and it was dreaded 31 hour trip up. It sucked (especially the food that they served), but overall it was a good experience because some areas were very scenic. But after about three weeks in Hanoi, I couldn't bear the agony of coming back on the train so I ended up tossing the return ticket and took the easy plane ride back to HCM city. |

It's a nice enough journey but I would have to agree that the 'food' is not particularly wholesome.Best to stock up on pot noodles and packs of cookies before you set off. |
