Generally, we use banks. They are good for banking.

What exactly do you want to know?

Having no money and no work permit also helps.

It would seem, from reading some of the responses you have recieved, that many of the people on this forum are here way too often and have gotten a bid hard-hearted.

So, in answer to your question: While some of us are paid in beans and subsequently plant them, some of us have gone to a bank and asked nicely to open an account. In my case, I asked a friend to go with me (at the time, I hadn't enough Turkish to navigate my way through the basic requests) and opened a normal savings account. It was simple as pie. I deposited 100 Turkish Lira and that was that. I needed to show my passport and nothing else. Some banks require a residence permit, others don't. The one I use and would suggest to anyone who wants to open an account is GarantiBank. I tried HSBC but got the run-around and eventually walked out.

Good luck and pm me if you have any more questions.

I certainly do, Baba, esp if you put them in Garanti bank's fixed-term saving accounts-- you get 14% a month these days! Great sprouting comes from great inflation and unstable currencies!
