| He's going to be getting out soon. He's been to Iraq three times and he's said a few times that my life is so interesting, he wants to travel, etc. I'm going to see him in a few weeks and I want to talk to him about teaching English in China. He doesn't have a degree but I know that it's possible to find work in China without one. I'm just curious about the whole Iraq thing, though. Will that hurt his chances at all? I mean...I don't know if the employers would be scared of him or something. I know that it would be no problem in the US, but I'm just not sure about China...He's really one of the nicest and most polite guys I've ever met, and he's always been like that, but he's really hardened now because of the *beep* he's gone through. |

Well, he doesn't have to put that on his resume, does he?
The most important thing is, he'd better be able to hold his tongue if people should should start criticizing the USA's "invasion" of Iraq, the USA, etc. |

Um, been here a year and have about 750 students at college plus I'm friends with plenty of Chinese teachers. They have never once talked about Iraq. If he doesn't bring the studject up it is unlikly they will. I once saw a black American try to talk about racial hatred to middle school students in South Korea. They were "what's he talking about"! I had to go to their rescue and tell him to leave the subject back home.
In South Korea there are plenty of Americans that are working for the miltary there doing part time English teaching. I can't see a problem here either. |

Was that really necessary, Mr. High and Mighty? Would an experienced, TEFL holding alcoholic, drug addict, or low-life loser who tries to nail all of the students be better? I've read some stories on here, and I know that there are far worse out there... |

| Ok thanks, TW and Anda. That shouldn't be a problem because he doesn't really like to talk about it...he doesn't agree with it either. |
