|
|
I am planning on moving to Xiamen in a month (end of April). I have not found a job yet, but hoping to find one before I make the move. The problem I have is that I don't seem to be seeing any job postings for Xiamen (teaching or not). Even during the teacher hiring phase (last month), I don't recall seeing anything for Xiamen. If I were to move there without a job, are there English papers that post job ads? Would it be easier to find a job once there, or am I hoping to find a job in a flooded market? I have 3 years experience in China and Japan, a TESOL cert., and a Uni degree. My qualifications are not a problem.
Thanks for your input. |

Check the post below yours. Fuzhou or Xiamen? Xiamen has a fairly small expat scene most of whom would help point you in the right direction, in my experience. Try Tian Lai bar in town centre (in the street parallel to Xia He Lu). A few language mills such as EF, Big Apple and also Infomatics are all usually looking to hire. Plus there is Xiamen University and Jin Mei University. Good luck |

Hi there.
I was in Xiamen a while back. It's not like Beijing where you can log onto an internet website and see 500 wanted ads.
I did not even bother looking for part time as I had a nice position.
You could hang around the university and see if you can find someone in charge of hiring over there.
Definitely look around the city before choosing a place to live. I was by the airport and had to take an hour bus ride to get to the beach.
Xiamen can be a great place for the outdoorsman/woman but this doesnot address your question.
Just go. |

One friend lived there years back, and then came out to China again about 5 years ago, and always said how good Xiamen was, but claimed that it was impossible to find a job there 'without at least a Masters'. I don't know if that is really true or if he was just making excuses (so as not to have to get off his arse and move somewhere decent) |
