How do you transfer a residence/work permit to another school? here is my situation:

At the end of January I left a school. This school issued me a residence/work permit. The permit is valid until Sept 2007. I got a letter of release from the first school and signed a contract with a University in a different city starting March 20th. How exactly would you transfer sponsorship from the first school to the second? I am supposed to go with a secretary from the University to the PSB to take care of this, but she has no clue how exactly to do this. They have never done anything like this before, they have only hired people right from the US (or some other english speaking country). If anyone else has gone through this, if you could let me know what the procedures are I would really appreciate it. |

We have covered this a number of times; here are the essential steps:

Your release letter needs authentication from the local P.S.B.; that's what your FAO is supposed to do.

Then you take the validated release letter to your new employer who will submit your passport to the local P.S>B.

This is in the case of you moving within the same jurisdiction; if you move to a different city and/or province, I am not sure whether your reisdence permit needs cancelling. Probably not but the P.S.B. will have to enter their own jurisdiction in the existing RP.

Anyway, that's how it worked when I transferred from one city to another in the same province years back; these days they might be more relaxed about it. Don't sweat! |

I assume you are still in the same province, i.e. Jilin? Did your former employer take back your FEC? If you still have it, just put it away in case the Jilin Education Bureau/Ministry asks for it before they'd issue you a different one.

Steppenwolf is right about the release letter (apparently mandatory in Jilin). Whoever needs it is beyond me but since you have it already, you have nothing to fear. If you have moved to a different province, the local PSB WILL cancel your old RPF before issuing you a new one. Just ask the FAO to take your passport along with your new FEC to the local PSB where they will cancel your old RPF and issue you a new one. That's how it was done for me when I moved from Hohhot to Changchun. In fact, I didn't even need to go through another medical here because I'd already had a FEC (which was returned to my former employer when I left). |
