Well, it's obviously not a valid work visa. None of the teachers (or Head Teachers) during my time at the yellow misery had one. It's definitely not a university diploma.I can think of 2 head teachers and a branch manager who don't have those. Since most of those "higher ups" wrote the abortion of a textbook series they're using now, it's pretty evident not alot is required.
To qualify as a "Head Teacher", you have to have the ability to lie, cheat, and kiss alot of backside. Organization and helping staff are secondary. During my time, most of the HT's were the types that would throw teachers in front of moving buses if it meant they'd somehow get promoted. |

'cause it was invented in Camberwell, and it looks like a carrot. |

That's not very nice, Mr. Kodak. I work really hard for my teachers. |

Yeah nice one. The ability to kiss a lot of backside is essential. But only when it comes to dealing with teachers. Lying, maybe. In order to help teachers get some time off to go on a quick holiday or to save them from getting in trouble when they can't remember to give exams or be pleasant to students and other sundry things like that.
And if helping staff is secondary, why do head teachers spend their time training teachers so they don't make asses of themselves in the classroom, taking them all over Istanbul to sort out things like bank accounts and tax numbers, dealing with emlaks, not to mention taking phonecalls at 2 in the morning from people who have decided they are too drunk to teach the next day, sticking up for teachers to management and students alike and in general covering up for everyone's mistakes?
And they do all of this so that they can make life as easy as possible for the teachers and in order to protect as much as possible the precious free time of the teachers.
And what is the payback for this? Usually it's getting called in to cover on their only day off (if they are lucky enough to have one).
And where, may I ask, is a head teacher supposed to want to be promoted to? In my experience, the dream of most head teachers is to see the day when they are working part-time and can kick back in the teachers' room chuckling fondly as they watch the new head teacher try to juggle rebellious teachers, disorganised office staff and demanding managers. |
