When I was doing orientation the school kept harping on how low the educational level of the students was, how they hadn't finished much schooling in their home countries (mostly Latin America.) From the way they went on I was expecting people who were barely literate. It hasn't been what I expected at all. While their English skills are often low, they are excellent note takers, have beautiful handwriting and so on. The other thing that surprised me is that they LOVE dictations. They literally beg for more. I remember hating those when studying foreign languages. |
