I am currently working at a Private College in the Guangdong area which has a relaxed attitude to life.

They employ couples who are not married, it is fine for the foreign teachers to have friends stay in the apartment, dormitories for the Chinese teachers are mixed, students bring their partners back to the dormitories.

The other night the school was invited to a dinner organised by the City of Guangzhou followed by the opewra. Upon leaving the opera, a group of teachers advised the school they would be seeing the ' bright lights of Guangzhou instead of catching the bus home. If I did this at my last school they would have ' frogmarched me back to the bus'.

This is a 'welcome culture shock' for most of the teachers.

It is a welcome change to be treated as an adult !!!!!!
