I am minoring in English with the hope it might land me a job but I am also going to get TESOL certification. Does having a minor in English help at all when they consider hiring you?

Hello,

I'll say that having a minor in English certainly won't hurt, but honestly, I don't think it will help very much. It might be the extra leverage you need to clinch a job, but more significant is your EFl/ESL/TESOL certification. That, obviously, you can't do without.

I have a BA with a major in Political Science and that was never an issue for me finding work teaching. While having a background in education or English is helpful to yourself for having that bit of extra exposure to the field, I think employers are simply looking to see that you are educated and were capable of studying for a degree, no matter what degree it was.

Good luck in your job search.
