Hi,
I've been offered a job in Guangxi Province and the employer told me to come on a tourist visa and he would upgrade it to work when I got there. I was wondering from those of you who have done this--what did you put on your tourist visa application for purpose of visit, duration of stay, etc? I'm concerned that they will not issue me a tourist visa if I tell them the truth.
Thank you! |

HA...Sorry, not laughing at you, beleive me. I am just thinking of the varying degrees of responses you will receive in regards to your "employer" upgrading your visa....
In regards to your question, very few people are denied a tourist visa to China. Simply fill in what you would if visiting any destination...But do not list anything in regards to teaching...Allow 3-4 business days. You can do this at home, or take a flight to HK first and apply there, and chill overnight.....
Good luck. I enjoyed much of Guangxi..... |

Yes, "reason for visit" should be pretty straight forward for a Tourist Visa. Just don't mention your long-standing support for the liberation of East Turkestan.
Get the longest stay you can. These seem to vary by country. I got 6 months last time.
As for the second part of the question: this used to be a definite no-no, with warning bells. However, it seems to have become more common, with "legit" schools in many places able to get work and resident permits from the local authorities.
As a general rule, if its a state school at any level, its probably OK. If private, it may not be. Thus my recommendation for a long L visa. Do a runner if it becomes obvious that you're not going to get a work visa. Find somewhere else: there's no shortage of legit, low paid jobs on offer all year round.
I worked in Guangxi for 2 years. A great place to see more traditional China than the coastal cities. Low cost of living, usually low salaries. |
