First: I do not now if the MOE is reqruiting.

Second: What are your qualifications? B.Ed., B. A., Dip Ed? What you have to remember is the fact "Singapore is a very expensive" place to live.

You should check out the thread by "Sheepshead." S/he puts it very plain and as I lived and worked on Singapore I can qualify their entry.

You should find out what your salary will be, then allow at least S$1.2 minimum for accommodation then take into account utilities which are also expensive and food which leaves little in your pocket. Medical and especially hospital and other expenses will also eat into your salary.

For further information you can pm me and I shall try my best to relate my personal experience.

The school year starts in January, so MOE will probably recruit later in the year. Contact them directly and express interest, asking when you should apply.

There are plenty of teachers here who have families (myself included). While you don't have the life of other expats here, it's a good place to be. I know a few people that work in govt schools and have families. Civil servants (teachers in local schools are considered part of this group) get annual bonuses which are usually very generous. Last year that was 3 months salary.

I don't think the allowance they give will cover international school. How old are your kids? The reason I ask is because local school start at seven, and there are good kindergartens available (my kids attended local kindys) and plenty of expats choose to do this.

One person I know did send her child to local schools and she said the experience was fine. There are more and more expats here (not teachers at MOE) who are sending their kids to local schools.

I think if your kids start at a local kindy and then go into a local school, it will be fine. Coming from a school overseas to school here would be quite an adjustment though.
