hey there,
I'm in my first sponsored work visa with Nova.
I just quit.
What happens with my visa? I'd like to stay in Japan and work in another full-time job.
Big questions:
Is one allowed to stay in Japan, even on a theoretical vacation, until the end of the visa?
Is getting a new visa simply a matter of finding a sponsor (with job), and starting that new visa, simultaneously voiding the old Nova visa.
Do I have to book any trips to Korea any time soon (good as that would be), for a visa run?
I should have researched this more thoroughly, but
1. I was really sick and unable to get myself to a computer,
2. you know when the time comes to quit, you gotta do what you gotta do, and the rest will usually fall into place.
Really appreciate any info. Thanks.

It is pretty simple. Your visa is yours. You can stay in Japan and work for whoever you wish as long as your visa is still valid. How soon did you quit after getting sponsored by nova for your work visa? I am almost 100% you are ok but I have to imagine companys have some kind of recourse if they sponsor a worker and he quits the next day.
Whenever your current visa runs out you will need to find a new sponsor in order to stay in japan. You just head into immigration with the paperwork from your new employer before your current visa runs out and you will get a new one. You do not have to leave Japan in order to extend a current work visa.

cool... I think.
I quit a few months into it. I have worked for Nova longer though, on a working holiday. |

many thanks. really good to know.
Here's a question, though.
I go on an overseas trip after I quit Nova, and, potentially, before I get a new sponsor/visa.
Is that going to pose any problems, do you think, to the authorities at the airport and the visa office? |

As long as you return in plenty of time to start the visa extension process and you have a re-entry permit then no, it will cause no problems.
The airport immigration authorities have no way of knowing that you have quit your job and it doesn't matter anyway if you have a valid visa. |

But a reentry permit before you leave Japan, or your visa will be invalidated upon your return. |
