Well as I'm sure everyone is aware we've got a holiday coming up this week. Now, on the mainland a national holiday such as Spring Festival where lots of people are heading back home to visit families or a labour week vacation would be a perfect opportunity for train, plane and bus tickets to jump in price in anticipation of the throngs of travellers.
Hotel prices would likewise jump and would pretty much be non-negotiable. My wife and I would like to visit Taipei for a day or so and then head to the Taroko Gorge.

So here's my question:
Are the hotel prices in Taipei usually/ever negotiable?
What is a reasonable price for an average hotel?
Any recommendations?

Thanks.
