Yes, I'm really talking about man's best friend. I've been living in my house for 6 months. Everytime I walk past any dog in the neighborhood they charge at me barking. At first I thought it was because I was just new. However, I was recently married and my Japanese wife is now living with me. The dogs almost never bark at her even though she has only been living here a short time.

I'm simply fed up with the cultural insensitivity portrayed by furry beasts in Japan. It's not just dogs that are racist. Cats also have issues they need to deal with. When I lived in America cats used to befriend me every place I lived, but in Japan cats either run away or hiss profanities at me. The only nice cats I've found in Japan are in Nippori which has a large foreigner population.

I think it's high time the Japanese puppy and kitty mills institute a mandatory internationalization program for their wares. I've never seen an American pet show such discrimmination or aggression as these Japanese pets. If this racism continues you may be reading an article on Japan Today about the crazy gaijin pet golfer. Twisted Evil

Well, thats why I left America. Goshdarnit! Mad Too many 'em four-leggid creatures keep a barkin and a howlin #$%& four-letter canine words at me! Must be my yellow skin and hair. Dagnabit!! And to top it off, Ive been nearly bitten by one of them American Pit Bull terriers! Really. Evil or Very Mad Horrible lil' monsters they sure are... American Pit Bulls need to be neutered!....Yeah, a sterilization program, I think Rolling Eyes ... But here in Japan, the pooches and kitty kats have been the friendliest in my life. Oh yeah. I love em here, always approaching in good spirits. Friendly and always in a good mood.... Well... except for just a few older Akitas, and some mini-poodles... they can be a bit grouchy at times. Confused

Guest of Japan,

i SERIOUSLY doubt that the animals in Japan are racist.....

I think they're Sexist. I walk my many many many dogs and they never growl nor bark at me. No, I take that back, they do bark, but they bark in an ever so caring way. They tend to stop barking as soon as i bark back a, "hello, my small canine friend".

As for the cats, i've had two that wanted to befriend me. They walked up to me meowing but when i saw their oily flea ridden fur, i had to back away.

The two abandoned and nearly dead kittens we've picked up on the way home from work so far in five years have been very grateful for a home with westerners. Maybe they were too young to have been indoctrinated.

Cheryl's right. "Man's best friend" is just a myth- dogs tend to prefer women.
No Japanese dog ever had a problem with me.

Cheryl I thought you'd set up a dogs home in your short time in Japan.

I'd like to speak up for the stray dogs and cats in Thailand. Despite being kind of mangy they are really sweet and not the slightest bit xenophobic.
