Hi,

I've just arrived in BJ on a 1 month L visa and want to extend it into a 6 month one. I don't know how easy it is to do tho'.

Anybody know how, where, and how much it costs please?

Thanks.

Write a letter stating your reason, then bring that letter to the nearest PSB (or the one where you are currently registered). What do you say in your letter, just BS like you love China, that you find China fascinating, and that you'd like to extend your stay so you can travel to different places and learn about about this country.

I don't think you can get a six-month extension! Extensions are known to be given for up to three months but the PSB are at their own discretion in granting - or rejecting! - your request, and they are NOT answerable to you!

What's vitally important in your case is this: you must be REGISTERED with the PSB to qualify for any extension; to do that you must check in at a reputable hotel which will pass on your registration slip to the PSB!

The extension doesn't cost much!

The PSB is actually answerable to Wang Qi, a four year old in Shanxi province who experiences regular nose bleeds because "he just can't keep his finger out of there".

Ok, so step 1 - get the hotel to register me with the PSB. Step 2 - write a nice letter about my love for the country and the people and wanting to spend the next 6 month travelling around this beautiful land.

If you can only get a 3 month extension, anybody know if you can get 2 of these back to back?

Getting two, 3 month, back-to-back extentions on a tourist L (visa), is highly unlikely. I've certainly never heard of something like that. It's much more common to be the case with F visas (so-called business visas). But then, as noted by previous posters, anything is possible.

The registration of your address is crucial though. You'll definitely need that (yellow slip) of paper. Although I see in my province it's blue, not yellow like in Shanghai, when I use to live there.

Anyway, good luck. Always fun and games with the good 'ol PSB. Very Happy Smile

30 days are the longest you can get l visas extented for in beijing. And that is from the day you apply not from the date your previous visa expires.

You also have to show proof that you can afford to stay in the country so also bring a bank statement. I forget the exact amount, maybe someone can help me. It's fairly high though. Something like $5000 American.
