I've got about three weeks between I have to leave Taiwan and my flight home at the end of april/beginning of May. I did want to go to Yunnan, but think that with the May Holiday it might be more effort than it's worth.

So, is there enough to keep me occupied in Hong Kong, Macau (And maybe Guangzhou etc) for about 3 weeks? I'd like to do a bit of hiking, see some greenery. Is this likely? My budget isn't wonderful, I'll have about 3500HK$ for the three weeks.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I don't think that's enough money for holidaying in Hong Kong or Macau. Perhaps China.

I don't think you'd be able to do 3 weeks in HK/Macau with if $3500 HKD if you need housing.

With a budget of 3500HKD for 21 nights, you'd have 166HKD a day.
I doubt that you'd even get the most basic of guesthouses for that, let alone pay for food and fares as well. Better choose another city.

If you want to see some greenery and go hiking I guess you could bring a tent and camp at one of the free AFCD campsites in Sai Kung or Lantau for example. Most of the sites have washing facilities/showers etc. You could then use the $3500 for a gas camping stove and 3 weeks supply of baked beans.

I think that's the only way you could do it on your budget.

Why Hong Kong? Why not go the whole hog and take your $3,500 HK to Singapore, or, better yet, Tokyo? No, the posters above are correct. Even if you rented a bed in a dorm in Chung King Mansions in TST and ate at local restaurants of the variety in which old women go around in wellington boots and clear tables by simply pushing everything plates, chopsticks, leftovers, ashtrays, etc. into a bucket (in Cantonese they are termed 'fast-food' joints) I doubt very much if you could do it, and even if you could you would probably find it a frustrating and far from enjoyable experience. I was down in TST just a few nights ago to celebrate the start of the Easter holidays and was charged $60 for a pint of draft lager, and that was the ''Happy' Hour'.

Hahaha, I thought I was being a little optimistic!

Thanks for all the help, I think I'll just see a few places in Taiwan instead.
