|
|
Hi everyone,
I was wondering how much EAL teachers make in Latin American countries.
Some countries I would be interested in teaching in would be:
Ecuador
Colombia
El Salvador
Guatemala
Argentina
Bolivia
I was wondering if anyone would have any info on that. Thanks you very much.

In Peru, the average is 5 USD an hour. |

In Ecuador, $5 to $8 in hourly positions, most teachers average between $550 and $800 per month.
Salaried positions tend to range from $600 to $1000 per month, but at the top end, you need a lot of quals, or a lot of luck.
Cost of living appears to be higher here than in Peru, though...
Of the countries you mention, Ecuador and Argentina are probably the most expensive to live in.
Bolivia and Colombia are relatively cheap, but wages tend to reflect this.
All the best, |

Hi Justin,
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. No worry, Ecuador is still definitely on my list of oppurtunities, I'm just looking at other options too.
What is the cost of living for a foreigner in Ecuador? If let's say I earn $550 a month, how much is average housing (not looking for anything extravagant), food, water, electricity, transportation (I prefer busing to driving) and an internet connection?
Another country in Latin America I would be really interested in would be Colombia. You said that it has a lower cost of living and lower wages. Do you have more details on that and could you give them to me please?
Thank you.
Regards,
Tomasz |

Do you mean ESL?
Where exactly are you thinking of teaching? I saw some of your posts and they were about Egypt. |

I would like to teach English as a Second Language (in some Canadian schools now called EAL- English as an Additional Language) but I will also soon be an Education grad so I can teach in an International School too. Egypt is one place I am thinking of going to in order to teach, I would also like to learn about possibilities in Latin America and I have asked about Russia and sorrounding regions (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan). I am also going to try learn more about Ethiopia.
I would like to get a chance to teach English and earn some money some of which I can hopefully save but I would also like to get the chance to do some volunteer work for a humanitarian group when I am not teaching and work with people who are poor and do not have access to education. I haven't yet chosen a part of the world I would like to focus on.
I don't know if this sounds naive or contradictory or unrealistic, but it is what I would like to do.
Take care,
Tomasz |
