| I may be going to Jubail to work. Can anyone tell me about what it is like there - pros/cons, downtown vs industrial city, what to do on the weekend, clubs, etc? And language schools - just in case I don't like it where I am going to?!! |

Dear micro,
These are just a few scribbles hastily concocted whilst I should really be asleep, so please don't treat them as authoritative.
Pros:
1. Much quieter than Khobar, Riyadh or Jeddah.
2. The beaches are lovely.
3. There is free wireless internet, at at least one beach.
4. It is often said to be great for families. I don't have a family so I can't comment.
Cons
1. Much quieter than Khobar, Riyadh or Jeddah.
2. It's a small town, people talk - so I've heard (sic).
Jubail downtown has a lot more vibe to it than the industrial city, but it's filthy, too. I once saw a rat down there. Driving in the industrial city is relatively stress-free - driving in downtown is a nightmare, for me, at least.
Anything you can't get in the industrial city, you need to go downtown. Anything you can't get downtown, you need to go to Dammam or Al Khobar.
Weekends? Go to the beach, go to the park(s), go to dammam/khobar, go to the desert. Go to restaurants (there are a few good ones downtown).
Language schools? I don't understand your point here. Are you considering working in a language school or studying a foreign language???
I assume you'd be looking at working in one. I wouldn't advise it, for the simple reason that a language school is a private, capitalist operation. A public sector outfit is much better.
If you're not an alcoholic, you shouldn't have any problems. |
