In the future, my husband and I would like to live in Europe, Eastern Europe if possible. Here in Peru, there's a visa called an investor's visa. Basically you can get residency if you invest 20K USD or more in Peru. Are there any European countries that offer this option? |

Don't know about that, but a guy I know set up a company (cost about 300 Euro in paperwork) and then got a residence permit based on his being the owner.

Yes, in Romania. He found a good English-speaking notary clerk and she did all the paperwork for him. If I remember correctly he paid about 800 RON for the various fees and documents, and 200 RON for the notar's help. After he 'owned' a company he went to the APS and applied for a residence permit, which he received without problems. |

Mike_2003,
I have been offered a job as a lawyer in Bucharest with a Silver Circle law firm.
I am a NZ citizen and have no possibility of getting an EU passport.
You mentioned you knew someone who had started a company and got residency through that. Was he an EU citizen?
Looking at the date it was pre-EU entry. Any idea if that would work still? |

Hi,
He is an EU citizen but he did this in 2004 long before Romania was in the EU. There are no restrictions on foreign citizen of any nationality owning a Romanian company.
If you have a work contract with your employer, you can just apply directly for the work/residence permits - no need to faff about setting up a company.
