I'm a Canadian looking to go to San Diego for a year (until I start a Ph.D.) and I've become increasingly interested in TESL. I've been reading quite a few posts about SoCal and San Diego in particular (and the opportunities there), but haven't been able to find anything regarding the TN Visa and if it's a possibility regarding teaching ESL. I do have an MA in languages (Spanish), and a TESL certificate, so I'm sure that I could create a link between the two if I were offered employment.
Has anybody been able to obtain a TN Visa for TESL in the US? |

I was thinking about that too. From what I have read you need to have a job offer at a college, university or seminary for year. It looks like they are not too difficult to obtain if you are qualified and have the offer. Hopefully someone will come on and tell us!
There are a limited number of H 1B visas and they take a lot longer to process. They would be useful if you had a job offer for primary or secondary.
If you have an offer at the right institution the TN visa would presumably make more sense? |
