JUst trying to find out which country is harder to find full-time gigs as you get older out of the two? In other words - which one discriminates against your age more?

elliot,
How old is "older"?
What sort of work did you plan to do at that advanced age?
What are your qualifications?

I came here in my early 40s and have been here a while. The work is here if you look for it and are qualified.

What the hell does agest mean?

Did you mean:

aggest

\ag*gest"\, v. t. [L. aggestus, p. p. of aggerere. See agger.] To heap up.
The violence of the waters aggested the earth.

ageist / Pronunciation[ey-jist]
noun
1. discrimination against persons of a certain age group.
2. a tendency to regard older persons as debilitated, unworthy of attention, or unsuitable for employment.

agast

\a*gast"\ or aghast \a*ghast"\, v. t. To affright; to terrify.

agist /əˈdʒɪst/ Pronunciation[uh-jist]
verb (used with object)
to feed or pasture (livestock) for a fee.

I think the OP meant to say 'ageist':

Main Entry: ageism
Variant(s): also agism /'A-(")ji-z&m/
Function: noun
: prejudice or discrimination against a particular age-group and especially the elderly
- ageist also agist /-jist/ adjective

I sorta gathered that too, (eventually... after I went into the thread and read the question)... Spelling mistakes are one thing, but geez, ya know -- you'd hope that the thread subject line (at the very least) would be proofread. I honestly had no clue what the OP was talking about just by browsing the topics.

Both Taiwan AND Japan are quite age-ist. Sexist, as well. The first cutoff is commonly age 30...followed by 35/40. Universities would be the exception to that rule, but University teaching positions are highly prized, highly competitive positions that often go to incredibly well-qualified long-established members of the good ole boys' club.

If you're very aged, perhaps a better alternative might be elsewhere in Asia-- Viet Nam, perhaps?
