Anyone have any suggestions for finding work in Italy without an EU passport. I've been trying for a long time and prefer to line it up before I get up and move.
thank you. |

Try posting on the Italy forum. I've heard it's difficult to get work in the EU without a passport from a EU country. Especially lining one up. If you've got QTS, qualifying teacher status, look at international schools. Otherwise, most likely you'll be working under the table. www.tefl.com is also a good place to look |

Difficult to impossible. Check the Italy forum for more in-detail discussion. |

Worked there for a while in the 90s. As a non-EU passport holder, it can be very difficult. (Read, unlikely to be legal)
Not sure what it's like now- there's been quite a bit written about it, though. Looks like the shadier end of EFL...
Best,

It's a mess. Basically the legal procedure is that you get a job and then they apply for the work permit, which can take months to arrive if it ever does (the employer has to make a good case that the job can't be done by an EU citizen, and that is not easy). The result is that the reputable language schools hire Brits or Irish, because there is no work permit needed.
Doubt if its any easier for an EU national to get a job teaching English in the States. |

Even if you do have an EU passport, is Italy such a great place to teach? It is beautiful to live there, that I know, but all my family there seem to complain so much about jobs and the like. Many of my other relations from Romania are working there, though. |

Thanks for all the responses. I've been fishing around forums and the only solution seems to be to get up an go there with the possibility of finding Illegal work. I'm not too comfortable with that, I may just have to look for Italian companies in the U.S. with the possibility of someday transferring there. |
