This is a quote from another forum.
But there is a general question here. With the major expansion that is happening with Universities all over China, are we "innocent" foreign teachers (used to Western standards of Health & Safety) at risk?

Dalian University of Foreign Languages Warning - 2007/04/07 09:46
As a current foreign faculty member, I highly recommend that no foreigner contract with DUFL for the next school term. The school has moved to a new campus which is still a massive construction site and a dangerous environment. It is such a condition that if it were in the U.S. or a European nation, non-workers/visitors would not be allowed onsite without hardhats and a guide.
I first visited the new campus site in mid September. Although progress has been made, it is not ready, but operations have been moved there anyway. Based upon the rate of construction progress made since September, I predict the campus will not be ready for safe use and educationally viable use for at least 12 more months. It will be much longer than that before it loses its "dust bowl" atmosphere.
Currently there is no internet service, there is no telephone service, and there is no library. Internet and telephone may be ready by the fall term, but I'm pretty sure the library will not be. Administration is saying mid-May for internet and telephone, but based upon specific observatons made, I do not believe that prediction.
Let all beware! |
