Pretty simple question.
Pray tell me, the country you would most like to live/work (teach and/or other)/play/eat/rejoice/commiserate/raise children/watch sunsets/watch your children grow up in? (Lotta backslashes there, eh?)
You're welcome to include or exclude your motivation for choosing the country/countries.
I think it would have to be my own country, South Africa, but right now it's plagued with problems.
So, #1 would still be SA, it's in my heart. #2 would be Thailand (for now, even though it has its share of problems). # 3 maybe Spain or Portugal - I've always dreamed of the Mediterranean lifestyle.
Yours? |

In my opinion, it's not that simple a question.
People may be uninformed about the country they desire to live in.
Not everyone has experience living abroad enough to compare.
You yourself didn't list much of a "motivation" or a description of the problems. |

Assuming I could find a nice, stable, well-paid job (we're already entering the realm of fantasy!) and assuming I were debt-free and able to enjoy and save my money rather than worrying about sending it back to the US to pay off my debts, I'd live in Buenos Aires. Why? After just a few days there, I fell in love with the place.
Or, going even further into the realm of fantasy, if a good, stable, well-paid job existed, San Francisco.

The country that best suited my needs at 20 is not the same country that did it at 30, or will do it at 40, 50 or 60.
Now when I'm 70, that would be the time that I might be able to accept the limitations of living in one country for the rest of my days.
Ummm, better make that 75. |

South Africa and Zambia are pretty high on my list. Two awesome countries that I had the pleasure to live in (SA) and visit (Zambia). Great people, low crime (Zambia), nice weather. |

I suppose I can only mention countries I've actually spent time in... but I don't think that I could ever commit to one country for the rest of my days, however long or short they might be.
In no particular order; England, China, Austria.
There's a lot I can't stand about my own country, but there's also a lot I love.
I've been in love with China for 4 years now, and still am, but I don't know if I'll stay here forever.
And I always loved spending time in Austria; the locals, the food, the scenery, the pace of life. I guess it'd be as good a place as anywhere else to get old one day. |

India and Thailand. I'd spend the summer months in the utterly beautiful mountain areas of Manali et al, and the winter sunning it in the Thai islands. Could not think of a better life than that. Of course I would have my own villa in each location, and a guesthouse. |

Now youre looking for the secret. But you dont find it because, of course, youre not really looking. You dont really want to work it out. You want to be fooled. |
Sounds a lot like religion... |

A bit late in the day but have been enjoying the delights Yemen has to offer. Nice enough from what I saw of it but it wouldn't be on my list.
Ok, so if I had enough money to live on pretty well then my choices would be um...
1. Zanzibar (ok I know it is part of Tanzania)
2. Australia
3. Turkey - though would have to escape the long cold wet winters |

Well for now it's Peru. But in the future we would like to go to Greece, Finland or China |

It's April and I am still waiting on winter...... Is Global warming really that bad? I've only turned the heating on a couple of times this year. |
