Language Link Ufa has just offered me a job based on only my cv and whatever my CELTA tutor said in a reference.
Is this normal? I was sort of expecting to have to do a phone interview. |

I am quite impressed with Language Link-they even bothered to read a reference. Sadly in TEFL few employers bother to even read the photocopied qualifications let alone bother with an interview. Imagine what your future coworkers will be like. |

What the ever-helpful thrifty really meant to say (I'm sure) is that no, this is not normal. A phone interview (at the very least) is par for the course, just like any other job. If they're hiring only off of CVs I'd be skeptical at best.
Good luck! |

Is it normal? It depends on how desperate they are. If they really need someone very quickly, then you'll do, assuming your CV and reference are pretty normal.
I would also expect a telephone interview in normal circumstances, like before the coming academic year, when there is enough time to interview. |

There were a number of serious problems at this school which ex-teachers wrote about on this site last year and they seem to advertise quite frequently for staff which is never a good sign!It is also Language Link, one of the notorious three on our Moscow Black list for low wages, long hours and low morale so I'd be VERY CAREFUL! |

What are the other two?
Also, why can't I get onto the Job Information Journal? Every time I click on one of the links, I get sent straight back to the esl cafe homepage |

B.K.C. and English First, not to say that all the others are angels by any means! If you are wondering why we have picked on these three and would like to find out more in general about teaching in Russia, have a look at the info. on the moscowteachers.com site and see the headings under language schools etc.But as a general rule, the more a school seems to be offering you up-front regarding visas, accom, flight refunds etc. the less they are actually giving you salarywise so be sure they will get it back from you once you start working for them! |
