|
|
So I've been given the option of either being paid in cash or put into a bank account. No questions for that, but the thing is...
I'll be saving most of it and leaving these fair shores in about 6 months. I'll have 30-40,000RMB not taking in any unforseen costs. Sooooo
I'll have to transfer about 20,000 of that into a friends account in my country of origin {Ireland} and would be more comfortable in putting the rest into my bank account at home instead of changing into the currency of my next destination and taking it in cash.
I've no experience of transfering money from Asia to overseas bank accounts. What's the best way? If I've 40K in my Chinese bank can I just go in and tell 'em to transfer 1/2 to 'this account in Ireland' and 1/2 to another account in Ireland and it's all done no problems... or is there massive charges this way?
Is there other options besides Western Union - don't they charge something like 4%?
Anyone have experiences of doing this?
Thanks. |

The easiest way of being paid these days is to have it deposited into your bank account. A major benefit with this is that if anyone has to go and stand in line at your bank, it isn't going to be you. Nonetheless, I've known some FTs who prefer to be paid in cash and keep a pile of money in their apartments. Something about the difficulty of getting money out of the few ATMs around campus, I guess.
To transfer the money overseas you'll first need to convert it, in your case, into Euros. A Chinese friend/student should be able to do this for you using their national ID card. Then, you can transfer the funds to your account overseas. You may have to go to your local "main branch" of the Bank of China, or similar, in order to do this. |
