My expertise is pronunciation. I know almost all good textbooks and audio resources. I have a lot of supplementary materials. I am a hobby linguist. Naturally, I am a native speaker. I don't want to teach some paper certificate 'qualification' (TESOL, IELTS, whatever) but real world communication in the two weakest skills - listening and speaking. Which country in Asia has many well-paid compared to cost of living positions?
While I understand the career oriented courses for higher education, and the frenzy to teach kids (seems parents are willing to spend big bucks on educating their kids but much less so on themselves), my focus is North American English pronunciation for adolescents and adults, in small classes. I am happy to supplement with tutoring - but only if very well paid (my experiences in Cambodia is that private students can be flaky).
I have no degree although I am university educated. I am willing to work illegally, in fact invite the opportunity to not pay taxes, despite the downside of no health care or legal protections.
I am over 50, a good teacher, don't date my students, and take my job seriously. All I care about at the end of the day is whether I can get plenty of vegetarian food, save most of my wages, and am not worked to death - 15-20 classroom hours is plenty. Not being tied down to one school via work permit/visa would be a plus. Money and freedom are key. |
