On a trip to the outlying island of Cheng Chau over the long weekend just gone I took the following photo of a spider. Is there anyone out there with knowledge of arachnids who can tell me what type it is? I hope the picture gives some sense of scale from tip to tip of its it was easily larger than my outstretched hand.
And does anyone know of the name of this cove and beach? It was about a twenty minute walk from the pirate caves.
Now, what about this sign? Is it just me who thinks it a little odd? Who on Earth do they think will be saved from falling boulders as a result of this sign? If they can see and pay heed to this, why wouldn't they detect a dirty great two-tonne boulder tumbling down the rock face at them?

Sorry, I can't be of any help as to the name of that cove or the make and model of the spider, but I just want to say: AWESOME!!
When I think of Hong Kong, what usually comes to mind are the cityscapes and harbor scenes from films I've seen, but seeing these photos opens up a lot of possibilities. The spot in this photo is absolutely beautiful! Do you have the chance to get out to places like this very often?
As to the sign...wouldn't you rather know than not? It's a funny photo, though; they should put another one lower to the ground that says "told you so." Perhaps money would be better invested putting up "Caution: open manhole" signs all over mainland China. Or at least in Wuhan.
