Hi,
I'm leaving in May to work at Nova's Multimedia Centre in Osaka.
My big hobby is horses (I've had to sell my own to be able to go to Japan! ;(
So, i'd love to be able to find somewhere to ride when i'm there. I've had a look online and managed to find a few places (although not in this area) but the websites are all in Japanese.. i'm not quite up to scratch with the reading yet! lol
Is there anyone else in the Osaka area who rides/knows of anywhere etc etc? I've heard that it's expensive - but how much is expensive? Any info good/otherwise greatly appreciated.

In Osaka, where the Multimedia Centre is, you can ride horses in Tsurumiryokuchi Park (Hanahaku Park). |

I don't know about horse riding, but there sure is some mighty fine horse eatin' to be had. Some of the best horse meat can be had in Nagano, Kyushu and Shimane. Best eaten raw with cold sake.
Enjoy! |

Well I live about an hour to the west of Osaka and I ride twice a week. It is expensive but the greatest cost involved was the once off membership fee for the club. I just decided that being here for a year it was worth it. I had a choice of a weekday membership, able to ride Mon-Fri which was around 150,000Y or a full membership, able to ride everyday which was about three times that. I opted for the weekday since I have Mondays off.
I pay a monthly fee of about 15,000Y and each time I ride I have to pay around 1500Y per 45min lesson.
I figured out the cost over a year and it didn't actually work out to be much more than I was paying in Paris and I really wanted to do it for my quality of life and I definitely don't regret it.

Hi PT,
Thanks for your reply. Gosh, that's quite expensive?! What are you actually paying a membership for? Is the riding good, is it just lessons you have or are you able to go out hacking etc?
So, you have to pay a membership and each time you ride? (i miss having my own horse! lol)
Thanks again,

You shouldn't have sold your horses. People in Japan still ride horses to work. |

Hacking is really hard to find here, I have heard that you can do it on a few private properties but aside from that I think it's probably illegal.
The membership fee I pay is for use of the clubs facilities (and they are nicer than any other riding club I've been to), it a members only club though so there is no getting around it. The lesson fee is additional but it's quite low and it is to cover the use of the club's equipment (saddles etc). I pay 3000Y to take a 1.5hr class. I enjoy the classes, at the moment I am concentrating on jumping and I think my instructor is pretty good.
Hope that helps some more,
