Hey guys. Well im thinking to come to Istanbul. I have heard many positive/negative things about Istanbul. Well I have worked in Japan for about 5 years. Now I need a change. I have heard its hard to get a visa in Turkey. Have read that many people teach and don't have visa. I have read that some americans have been put in jail for staying even one day over the 90 days tourist visa. Well I would like to know a few things.. How easy is it to find a stable english teaching job?? Is it fairly safe for an american alone in Istanbul?? Could any of you suggest a place(a cheap one) to stay while im looking for work??? How open are the turkish to americans??? It seems like an intresting place to be and id love to go.. Any and all information is most welcome....

And don't listen to the grumpy people on these boards who are in Turkey for God knows what reason, because they appear to spend a lot of time talking sh*t up and down about everything here.

Istanbul and Turkey are not so bad. It is not difficult to find a job here. The cost of living here is high, the pay is not. If you land a job including accomodation, that I suggest is the best way to get your start here in Istanbul. Good luck

Maybe he's not trying to convert you after all, yaramaz. Maybe he just wants something to light his farts with. Can't say I blame him really.

But if he doesn't quit telling me off for not answering the phone, I'll tell my MIL he keeps eating gas-causing foods.
