WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE WEBSITES FOR UNIVERSITY JOB LISTINGS IN CHINA? Can't seem to find good list of email contacts for University jobs. Dave's Job Board does not sort Universities. Listings mixed with private language schools and recruiters. Click forever to get email contacts. I suspect many email contacts are recruiters, not university hiring offices.
Trying to find list of Universities in China that hire TEFL teachers, sorted by location, with email hiring contacts listed under each school name. And no recruiters unless clearly identified as recruiters. Know any good job lists?

Not asking for much then.....I think the silence from posters on this should tell you something......does it............?
I just dont get what you think China is like.To judge from your posts you seem to think it is just like the States but in a different part of the world.
Have you never read that famous story where all the adults vanish and the children are left to run the town/city?That is what you should be expecting. |

Perhaps I got no replies because I asked the golden secret question: Where do you get your leads?
Reading these threads it seems I am best suited to universities. Got the credentials and degree, taught in Taiwan for years, just spent the past several years living on university campus in USA. I don't mind living in rural boondocks if I can land a good campus job, but China is big and I don't know where to begin.
Perhaps I got no replies because everyone assumes we all have an infinite amount of time to surf the Internet on home computers.... Such an online search is hard to do when you're already in transit, living in hotels without computer.... Surely I'm not the only backpacker globetrotting without a computer, relying on Internet cafes.... Just trying to find the most efficient way to contact these colleges. ANY ADVICE? |

I'm suggesting that, should you look at this site, you don't go through the recruiters running it: apply direct to the schools!
www.chinatefl.com
And one Clark W Griswald, a frequent poster here, has a link to a site under his posts entitled "List of schools in China" or something similar. You'll have to part with $$ to get inside. Do a search for his posts, or simply spend a few minutes tooling around here, and you'll find it.
Oh, and www.TEFL.com may contain something useful in between all the EF ads, but don't hold your breath.
Easter good deed done. |

Hang a tic.... Asia Bill I just read your new post: "Do YOU work for EF? Does head office KNOW you do?"
Man! Your nightmare is exactly why I want universities and not privates.... No wonder why you think I'm asking too much!
Well anyway, Bill I love your avatar.... Best of luck fixing that mess.
ESL STUDIES, thanks!... Chevy's website I think is buxiban.com, schools rated on 5 star system. Great site; I recommend it. However, it is too slow because you must first register, then click several times to reach each individual school contact info. It would take many hours over many days to open each individual school, hard to do from Internet cafes.
So my question still stands: ANY MORE ADVICE? |

James,
Thanks for posting the site with complete school list in China (buxiban.com). Unfortunately, none of the links seem to go anywhere, for me at least. When one clicks on a school of interest, a new window pops up with the phrase "Oops! There seems to be a problem..."
So much for online help. What good is the list if they can't put you in touch with the school? |

Ken, the "oops" means "oops, you haven't paid us money yet".
Does the user pay to look in a phone directory? No, the seller does.
But this is China.
ps, check your pm box. |

Just a word about www.chinatefl.com. They are a base school agency. James, if you find a University you like and want to work for them, stipulate in your contract that the University is the sole employer and no 3rd party is to be involved whatsoever. Otherwise the Recruiting Agency will take over and....well, do you trust recruiters to run your affairs? Some may be okay, but you would have to place a lot of trust in them. Here's a reason why NOT to trust Chinatefl:

That's what I was trying to say.
Sorry for being incoherent.

I think you can try Hunan women's college in changsha, hunan province.
The teacher's building is collapsed, but never mind, it'll be fixed any day now. |

never mind the teachers building...as long as their methodology hasn't collapse

yes, they are as it looks...however, it's really hard to say how those stars are added one by one to those schools ...then, one of those involved in this site comes on our forums to "unload his ambitions" and to pollute the threads that have the forums members experiences in
although, i must say that buxiban has got quite a lot of uni adresses and contacts on, which is really good...OP, you should know that those unis listed on buxiban are on, but they might not be looking for FTs ... adverts on that site might be there all year round, if you know what i mean
i think that one of better universities might be GUANXI UNIVERSITY in nanning city of guanxi province...there are about 30 teachers in and some have been in nanning for quite a while

your experience as well as credentials might be helpful but rather unjustified...teaching 25 students out of which only a few are interested is not as rewarding ... then, if you have that oral cr*p with a full of suggestions chenglish director from the department of the falling building
be aware of the pay that's lower than in a private sector as well as be aware of your accomodation disadvantages where you might be offered the on campus living, although no allowance for your private flat if you wanted one
good luck to ya OP
peace to the rest of us
and
cheers and beers to all hard working FTs around china |

Thanks for your earlier mention eslstudies.
Just to clarify about what you have posted above.
First, the "oops" does not pertain to money, it pertains to support. There are two choices to get full access to the site - add to the information base by submitting a review, or pay a small annual fee to help pay for the reviews of others. We simply ask that anyone who wants to use the site supports it which is pretty fair I think.
Unlike most of the sites that list schools ours is not a recruitment site so we don't make money from recruitment. Our site is simply a list and archive of comments.
As to the phone book analogy yes we could go the way of having schools pay for listings but then that opens the book of bias that many like to complain about. By being supported by the teachers who choose to use the site we are showing that there is no bias in that regard. User pays is a fair system - if you choose not to use it then you don't need to pay.
In answer to the OP there have been a few sites listed in this thread which should collectively enable you to contact schools. Google is another great resource but to be honest I think that you will find that a lot slower than other choices. |

However, this leaves the China Newbie with but one option.
No matter: as long as all is clear and upfront. |
