Can anyone say if its still possible to apply for Secondary NET jobs?
I see their main website says the deadline was January, but I keep reading on Daves that they need people. When I emailed the site direct, I only got some kind of automatic email saying the application form is at such and such page. (so I guess Ill try in any case)

Can anyone give me an idea about salary? $16000-$43000 isnt very specific.
Ive got a BA English lit, PGCE(S) in English lit, CELTA and DELTA. 10 years experience in TEFL, but only a few months in an international school doing literature.

Thanks very much for any help.

I would assume that the deadline given on the EMB website is more accurate than info. found here on Dave's.

Have you tried contacting a specific individual at EMB?

The website lists the original application deadline. It has certainly been extended once, but what the current situation is I don't know.

The person to contact is Phoebe Mok. Her contact details are here:

Thanks for your help.
I've sent off the application, so will see what happens.

Any comments on the salary?
I was thinking of NET or British Council.
The latter seems to be offering about 28K monthly. It doesn't seem very good according to the comments on this page.
But I'm not sure where I'd fit in on NET (if they actually come back to me at all of course)

The EMB website still says January 22nd, 2007 but it hasn't been updated since December 1, 2006.

I'm still joined up to job site www.seek.co.nz and received a shout-out from them recently:
http://www.seek.co.nz/users/apply/index.ascx?Sequence=87&PageNumber=1&JobID=8761322

http://www.seek.co.nz/users/apply/index.ascx?Sequence=88&PageNumber=1&JobID=8535702

closing date now appears to be May 7th. From memory, this is the third extension over the Jan 22nd deadline.

Incidently, May 4th is when the schools in HK have to tell the EMB if they want to re-employ their NET for another 2 yr contract.

Whatever you do, don't mention the phrase "evening classes". The EMB rejected one of my employer docs because it mentioned some classes were taught in the evening. Apparently all learning ceases at 3.30, by order of the Director General. That might give you some idea of what it is like dealing with the robots at the EMB.

If anyone's interested - it seems like NET will still take applications. (ad on their website says last January is deadline)
I only applied about 3 weeks ago and I've got an interview next week
