|
|
Just interested in emailing/contacting a teacher currently teaching for EF in Xi'an.
(and yes, I have read all the EF warning threads on this site and others, thank you - I just want to contact a current teacher at the school) |

Isn't it possible to come into contact with teachers via help from the EF head-office at Shanghai - I would have thought an advantage of any efficient chain operation would be that of being able to quickly give precise and up-to-date info on its individual centers - and enable prospective teachers to get in touch with those already employed |

Are you applying for work there? Ask the DoS or someone from TRT in Shanghai to put you in contact with current teachers. |

I worked at Xian EF for 2 years. Despite a few little disagreements, I thought the school was very professional and all the teachers were supportive and helpful. It is very busy and a lot of work but this helps you learn fast. Aso, the advantage of having about 16 teachers in each school makes for a good mix of personalities.
Xian is a great city too. |

Nice to see that you still have time to enjoy the "great city" as well as nice to see that you are learning fast.
EF centers in China are often for the ones who wish to learn, aren't they?
peace to EF Xian and its own standards
and
cheers and beers to the ones that can read our forums |

I'll have to remember this when I open my plastic flower factory next year. Once employees begin to complain about the long hours and low pay (and they will being human and all), I'll explain that they should be grateful for the "fast paced" experience available only at my factory.
An overworked, underpaid worker is a happy worker! |

Well in another thread even the noble Clark is starting to warn us about EF -
If now Clark starts to warn us -

So are you suggesting that EF is a name in the local market synonymous with quality English language instruction? I don't think that it is. |
I suppose part of this quality problem is something to do with that EF low wage/high hour combination - and don't expect too much time to do much traveling during the time you are contracted to this company - since holiday time is almost non-existent.
As an additional note on the wage factor - on the main EF site they use that tired old argument of low local wages to explain why the EF wage is so low -
Quote: |
EF teachers are paid in local currency and earn a salary equivalent to that of a well paid local manager. |
What you don't learn is that the wages of "well-paid" local managers have been soaring over the last few years - while the EF wage in China has remained stagnant. And although this is a rather general statement, I think, in most of the big cities, local Chinese managers wouldn't consider themselves particularly well paid at that 5,500/month wage EF offers - at least not in modern developed China. Why have EF resisted following local wage trends - especially if they try to convince the recruit that it's on this basis they should expect such a low hourly rate |
