|
|
According to Forbes.com, the Saudi prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud is ranked 13 in the list of Worlds Richest People for the year 2006, with a fortune of 23bill. His risky bet on Citigroup in the early 1990s paid off hugely and accounts for nearly half his fortune. http://www.forbes.com/2007/03/06/billionaires-new-richest_07billionaires_cz_lk_af_0308billieintro.html
From Kuwait, Nasser Al-Kharafi & family ranked 52.
From Egypt, Naguib Sawiris ranked ..................62
From UAE, Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair & family ...... 86
.
From UK, Lakshmi Mittal (He is an Indian not a Scottish ) ranked 5, with a 32 BIL.
Of course as usual, from the USA, William Gates III, is ranked NO. 1 with a fortune of 56 BIL.
Sorry, Dmb, it seems there is no Scottish in the top 20, neither in the top 500!

007, I'm sure there shoild be some Scots on the list... they just lied on the form and didn't want the tax man getting any of their hard earned cash.
Did you know copper wire was discovered by two Scots fighting over a penny? |

So, I guess Lakshmi Mittal is paying Uk off-shore tax, and not UK local tax?

I hope these two Scots are not Dmb and Scot47. |

If you're not domiciled in the UK then you make an arrangement with the UK tax authority to pay no tax on what you earn abroad.
This is why London has so many foreign multi-millionaires; it's a more cosmoplitan tax-haven than Dubai or Monaco.
Some years back the richest guy in the UK, the inventor of tetrapak, actually paid no income tax and got money from the government for something or other. |

Samuel Johnson said "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
During the last 10 years, London has attracted more Russian mafia multi-billionaires than anywhere else in the world. And The first thing they do when they emigrate to Britain is to hire a bodyguard.
According to Telegraph:
Welcome to the world of Britain's wealthiest and, easily, most enigmatic emigrs: the Russians.
There are more rich Russians in London than anywhere else in the world," says Elena Ragozhina, the publisher of New Style.
Almost all install bullet-proof glass the instant they move in," says one west London estate agent.

It's interesting to note that 60% of billionaires started with nothing
http://www.cnn.com/2007/BUSINESS/03/08/forbes.billionaires.reut/index.html
Also, with the average age of a billionaire being 62, who knows - there may be hope for me yet.
Seriously, does anyone in the forum trade the markets? e.g., www.cmcmarkets.com
I started a $1,000 trading account in November. Now if I double my money every year, in 10 years it will be worth 1m. Not meaning to patronize, but it follows that if I had started with 10k, in ten years t's 10m.
This lot (CMC Markets) have a good software platform and good training materials. Trading is something that can be done on your laptop for a couple of hours a day, after a day teaching.
I'm hoping (from reading the news and market commentary) that the markets will return to normal by the end of the month, after their big fall on 27 Feb. This should provide a good opportunity to profit from the rising market.
The CMC software platform, Marketmaker, will also allow you to profit from a falling market, by "going short" i.e., sell x number of contracts at the higher price, then after the market has fallen, purchase them back at the lower price, thus making a profit.
Any other novice traders out there? |

The truth is that both dmb and scot47 are fabulously rich and indulge in TEFLing as a way of engaging with the lesser breeds. I am of course referring to those unfortunates who are forced into this dreadful business by harsh economic necessity. |

As regards the first post, the amounts are in USD, not GBP. I am surprised no one pointed out the doubling of the fortunes of the super-rich!
Fun fact: There are 946 billionaires in the world and they have USD 3.5 trillion between them! And that is equivalent to 8% of the world's GDP!!!
And that's a huge jump from a year ago: 793 billionaires and USD 2.6 trillion.
The greatest increase in numbers of billionares has been coming from Russia in the past couple of years. |
