Hello!

I am a Canadian who was offered a position at a school in Brno, Czech Republic. Accomadation/flight is not provided, and the pay is 11,500 Krowns/month, plus opportunities to work overtime.

Would I be able to live off of this? I would like to either get a one bedroom apartment, or rent out a room.

If you have any advice at all please don't hesitate to post!
Thanks a lot!!

Hi Leah!

If the position is full-time and doesn't include any perks then 11,500,-CZK is not a very attractive offer. It could only be termed attractive if accommodation came with it.

We have had a few grads head down to Brno (which I fondly call the 'big village'), and teacher's wages there are on about the same par as in Prague.

As with any job offer, it is always best to look while you are actually here and not from abroad.

All the best!

Just to add one small thing - flights are not normally paid for in Europe in general.

I think TEFL-P is right- if that job doesn't include some kind of free accomodation, the wage is far too low to live on.

Most job-seekers in Europe generally (including the Czech Rep) are here on the ground - it's not that common to find any job from abroad. And you may not have access to all the information and contacts you would need to find the best schools/positions from abroad.
