Hi everyone, I have just heard the latest: at least four or even five teachers are definitely leaving. Another 5 are considering. This is a department of some 20 "odd" (and I mean "odd") teachers, half of which are likely to leave at the end of the semester. The Head of Department is close to a nervous breakdown and resigning. Even the Indian cleaners are fed up and thinking of returning to Kerala.

It's a circus and there's worse to come.

There are varying stories. Some people have been fired and have axes to grind... some are happy... most are carrying on. So, from what I hear, it is not much different than most small colleges around the Gulf.

Veiled Sentiments, as an English teacher at Sohar College, I'd like to put the record straight.

Turnover at this College's English Department has been lower than average for the region. Out of a teaching establishment of 38, only 2 teachers have departed this semester. Why did these two depart? One of them was fired for hitting the other one over the head with his briefcase on campus!

These two former colleagues of mine departed in January. (MOD edit) wrote in an earlier submission that he left this College in January. What is the only conclusion that we can draw?

This guy, who assaulted his fellow teacher, had also prodded our Head of Department in the chest with his finger during an earlier incident; for which he was reported to the Dean....(MOD edit)

You can draw your own conclusions on the identity of (posters) and on his/their motivation for submitting at least 4 slanderous and hateful postings about our College.

(MOD: let's keep to facts and not speculation about who posters might be)

Geronimo, I want to set the record straight. (MOD edit) ... what I have said about Sohar College is true to the best of my knowledge. As a current teacher at Sohar College I can honestly say what is going on. It is what it is. I don't know who you have been talking to but I can assure you that the morale at the College is rock bottom and that five teachers are definitely leaving with another 5 thinking about it. The HOD is not well respected and is close to a nervous break-down. The admin is terrible with students constantly complaining about the teachers and lack of text-books. It's a real mess. I'm thinking of leaving myself.
