Great Career Opportunities for Native English Teachers in a well - Established Language School in Jakarta, Please call HRD: 021.56942002 or send your CV by email to : [email protected]

This advert appears nearly daily in The Jakarta Post. The fact that it appears far more frequently than any other advert for ESL teachers should make you ever so suspicious.

Be warned that it is the group of EF English course schools owned and 'operated' by none other than the notorious Agus, a skinflint exploitive S.O.B. who would sign up his own mother for a course with an underpaid inexperienced expat.

Don't even think of sending your CV here. He will pay you less than $800 a month, charge you rent to live in his dump and make you work every Saturday for a year.

By the sounds of the top two threads this week, it seriously seems like a lot of the tefl industry is 'blighted' with SOBs.
What a God forsaken place !

They don't even use an EF email address which lends to the suspicion that this is a monkey outfit - no doubt there will still be lemmings prepared to throw themselves into the void...

I think what happened is that the owner's rich dad asked the boy just days before his eighth birthday what gift he would like. The boy said he'd like a Mickey Mouse outfit, so his dad bought him an EF franchise. Laughing

I don't really agree. Yes the conditions at this group are pretty full on (you have to pay for housing and they spcify 34 Saturdays) but they are all spelt out in the contract.
To mind this is better than other schools like Menteng where the contract is left vague on purpose and they sc**w you after you sign.

You can always negotiate on the contract.... Each person's contract is different. Seriously.
