My husband and I would like to travel. After being here in Peru for 2 years, I'm getting itchy feet. The thing is that my husband is Peruvian and only speaks Spanish.

So the ideal job for him being a native speaker would be to teach Spanish. WE're open to almost anywhere except for the States and Mexico.

BUt don't really know where native Spanish speakers are needed. If you could help us. that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any info, contacts or websites.

To work in Japan he needs a university degree and/or a valid work visa. If you have a work visa he can get a dependent visa and work part time. Some of the big chain schools here such as Berlitz and ECC employ native Spanish speakers

I will remind you that many Japanese-South Americans experience quite a bit of racial discrimination in Japan and usually get jobs in blue-collar type jobs, doing factory work.

Don't know if this helps:
Looking for a creative, punctual, motivated native Spanish part-time teacher with proper visa. 2,500 yen/h. Japanese ability is a plus. We are in Tama Plaza (Den'en toshi Line, 15' minutes from Shibuya). Send CV and photo to: info.gara(&)gara-davinci.com (posted 06/19/06)

Bon chances,

I would also like to teach Spanish in Japan or wherever as well, since I speak it. I had no idea that ECC hires Spanish teachers, that's good to know.

As for the Japanese South American discrimmination, yeah I definitely saw that when I went to Japan, but naturegirl didn't mention if she or her husband are Japanese South Americans. Either way, most foreigners aren't treated very well anyways, so it doesn't really matter where you come from. Looks like her husband will at least have a language barrier, which could be overwhelming.

I work for ECC and I believe that in order to teach languages other than English you need a pretty strong command of Japanese. Not positive about this, but I think it's the case.

I heard there are more non-English language instructors at ECC now than there are English instructors, so there's obviously a lot of opportunity in Japan for instructors of non-English languages IF you have the right skills, visas, etc.

Wow, I had no clue. That could be a good possibility for me as I've been taking Japanese for about 6 years now. Although I think it'd be hard because I tend to confuse Spanish and Japanese sometimes when I think to myself. ~_~
