Hi.
I currently teach in South Korea and have been here for 3 years. I'm thinking of leaving soon and looking to work elsewhere.
I'm from the UK, have a BA degree and my three years experience in Korea only. I have worked at private schools and one year at a public high School.
I have seen ads in classifieds websites for jobs as Native English Teachers in Hong Kong.
First question - how would these positions compare to working in Korea...?
Secondly - how many jobs are there in H.K for people without Teaching degrees or certs and what are the conditions like (again, please compare to Korea if you have the experience.)
Thirdly- a lot of the classifieds ask you to apply by email and include your expected salary. What would the going rate be for a monthly salary as an esl / tefl teacher at a private institute (I'm assuming these jobs are at private institutes.)
Lastly - in general what jobs and salaries are out there in H.K for someone with my credentials and experince?
Thanks |

Greetings Leon:
I have a BA degree and took some teaching courses in uni, but I am not certified. I worked in Seoul for two years at a private preschool (hagwon) then applied to two companies in Hong Kong. I was accepted by both. One offered lower salary with better housing. The other offered the opposite. I took the later.
I have been working in HK now for about 8 months at a pre-school in the New Territories. If you are interested in anything particular please feel free to contact me via pm.
D
P.s. If you are looking for a job right now, my school is short one teacher. |

Hello YellowHair,
Do you need at least a Bachelor degree to teach and get a work permit in HK?
Thank you. |
