Here's a really good job for dedicated Bible-thumpers. Advertised in the China jobs section.
Christian English Teachers wanted in Hong Kong
Our comprehensive benefits package ensures that our Instructors are well compensated for services that they provide. These benefits include:
A very competitive salary. Instructors teaching 8 Hours a day, five and half day a week will earn HK$13,000- 20,000 per month (depending on qualification, experience and skills) Additional $300 per hour may be offered for supplementary work.
Round-trip airfare reimbursement for the first year contract. From the second year contract of travel stipend will be paid per year.
Housing. New Instructors will be arranged with an optional shared accommodation. (Rent will be shared among them.)
-Guaranteed contracts; you will always be paid on time and in full by the Media Power Education in Hong Kong.
Medical benefits. Instructors may receive Blue Cross Insurance for comprehensive coverage.
Vacation pay. Instructors receive 8 paid vacation days, which can be taken during school holiday during the year. From the second year contract, Instructors receive 13 paid vacation days and one more day would be added every year, thereafter. Instructors may have the opportunity to take unpaid vacation time as stipulated in the company policy.
Degrees required, of course. I'm sure some dedicated christian person will jump at it!

You are being sarcastic, right?13-20k for fulltime work in HK is not very much. A qualified NET teacher in HK will make at least twice that, plus a generous housing allowance.

You have not taken a holistic view of the package... 13 thousand to 20 thousand a month is not negligible as such, but WORKING EIGHT HOURS A DAY, 5.5 days a week...
And then again, $300 an hour for overtime is juicy; so why do they expect you to put in 176 hours a month for 20'000 (maximum) but show such generosity when you have to work overtime (if you can still find the energy to do that after such a long working day) |

Hmmm. I have a standing offer of 15,000 RMB a month with housing, for 12 classroom hours a week in China, so this HK offer is definitely unappealing. If I were Christian, it might be different. |

Actually, Roger, I am taking a "holistic view" of the package. A typical NET works almost the same hours, similar to any normal teaching job in the USA, England, or wherever. Not all of that time is classroom time, of course.
As for the overtime they mentioned...I totally disregarded that. Why, after working 5.5 days, would you care about overtime?

Just want everyone to know - - I'm a Christian, although not a "Bible-thumber (a term I find offensive, as if that term applies to ALL Christians), and I wouldn't look twice at that job.
In fact, I saw it just before signing onto the Discussion Forum. Treat the ad with the sarcasm it deserves, but not Christians, please.

I just wanted to correct my own typo.
Yes, Christians make mistakes, too.

It isn't all christians who are bible thumpers.
My best friend is a Christain (and I still love her in spite of that fact).
Bible thumpers are the ones who try to convert the non-christians. The ones who defend their entire worldview on some perhaps misleading quotes from the bible. For example, evolution, homosexuals, sex before marriage.... and they judge all others based on their differing views while the bible tells they (as I recall) that it isnt their job to judge. I only ask that Christians learn non tolorance to people who are no Christian, after all I know many non-Christians who tolorate the ideas of Christians. Bible thumpers are the ones who refuse to let me have my own beliefs. |

I wonder what a "bible thumber" would be. Perhaps someone who pretends he is reading his bible while on the bus commuting to work, but thumbs through it rather haphazardly?
