Upon completion of my TEFL training and securing employment in Guadalajara or San Luis Potosi I am considering enrolling at university full time to earn a degree.
Do the universities in these cities have international programs in English?
Do you think I will be stretching myself too thin with this schedule?
Perhaps enroll part-time at university until I get settled and become more accustomed to teaching and to my new surroundings?
Is there anyone on here that has been down the path I'm contemplating? |

There are people who have done what you are contemplating.
My main concerns would be:
1) how is a full-time, typically inflexible Mexican university schedule likely to conflict with a typically unpredictable teaching schedule?
2) Will you make enough money teaching, given that you are going to spend a significant portion of your time studying?
3) Will you make enough money to pay tuition?
If you have a lot of money saved, it might be easier.
UNAM in Mexico City, and UDG in Guadalajara, both have foreign student offices. But if you enroll in one of those schools as a private student you may end up paying a lot more than the local rate for your education. But that still might be a lot cheaper than studying in the States. |

I don't know of any international programs in English in San Luis, if there are any they are more likely to be in the expensive private institutes like Tec de Monterrey. I know people who have studied masters and degrees here but in Spanish. Some of the courses sounded like a joke, others more serious. I don't know how you'd put up with the immense laziness of Mexican students - that and going to uni with 17, 18 years olds. Uni schedules can also be up to 8 hours a day. |
