I am a UK citizen, CELTA qualified, have a BA Hons degree and really want to teach in the USA, but seem to be loads of hurdles. What does it take, what is the best route to get a teaching post and overcoming the visa restrictions. |

Have you checked out programs like VIF? They require a degree and 'teacher training' plus 2 years experience with primary/secondary populations. Might be a long shot but only one way to find out. |

The state of Florida offers a 7-12 month program for those with bachelor's degrees to get certified. It's actually fairly easy to get into, costs around $1700 or so, and you need to take several classes to complete it. Classes are offered through community colleges and you can live just about anywhere in the state while participating in this program.
I strongly suggest this program IF you can support yourself for a year on your savings or on a minimum wage-ish local salary. Teaching jobs in Florida pay a livable salary in most counties, but the state is pretty pathetic in terms of living wages and job availability in most other industries. Recession or no, Florida's employment situation is pretty bad. It took me a good while to find my current position and the competition can be pretty stiff.
